Reasons Why a Door Closer is Not a “Set It and Forget It” Device.

We often hear: “You installed a new closer six months ago, but it’s not closing the door! It’s under warranty!”. Here’s why it usually isn’t.

1. Oil Physics: There is oil inside the closer. It thickens in the cold and thins in the heat. It must be adjusted at least twice a year.

2. The Door Matters: A closer cannot shut a door if the hinges are sagging or the frame is warped. Often the door itself needs maintenance, not the closer.

3. Human Factor: Propping the door open with a brick or forcing it shut destroys the hydraulics. This is improper use, not a manufacturing defect.
